Illness and disability
Gaps caused by ill health are a bigger problem. One recent survey revealed what we all suspect to be true, that roughly one-third of employers routinely reject anyone who has had a period on disability benefits and is now trying to return to work. Here the employer's worry is that your illness was a fiction covering laziness or that the illness will return, that poor health means you will be less likely to work hard or will need a lot of time off for treatment. Be sensible. Don't apply for a job which you can see would demand physical or mental effort which you could not make. If the job states clearly that you need to be capable of walking up to 10 miles a day and you have mobility problems, this is not the job for you. However much one would wish to give someone with a disability every chance, this was clearly one job he simply could not do. What to do If the gap in your CV is caused by: ill health, you might try

Too young Employer's worry youth inexperience; you are not ready for the responsibility. Your task demonstrate your maturity. Age discrimination can work both ways and it is just as maddening to be rejected for a job on grounds of youth as it is to be rejected on grounds of being too old. Again, be sensible.
